On Friday, we will host our annual Cancer Awareness Night, as we honour Spartan alumna Anna Dunn! Anna Dunn is a Trinity Western women’s soccer alumna, who played for the Spartans from 2020 to 2022. Anna has always been a difference maker on the field. She was a gritty, hard-working forward and midfielder whose work ethic was contagious to those playing with her. As a Spartan, Anna was known for putting everything on the line for her teammates and being the first one to pick someone up if they were down. She is considered one of the most inspiring players to ever wear the Spartan jersey. Anna completed her Bachelor of Education at TWU in 2021 and was preparing to begin her teaching career in Edmonton. After months of pain in her foot, Anna received the news in 2023 that she had Ewing’s Sarcoma - bone cancer in her foot. Anna underwent numerous rounds of chemotherapy treatment at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, and received life-altering surgery in which doctors performed an amputation to remove the cancer. After the surgery, Anna dedicated herself to the challenging rehabilitation process at home in Edmonton. She worked at learning how to walk again with a prosthetic leg and has now taken up sitting volleyball. She would have loved to have been here tonight, but she is representing Canada this week at the 2025 WPV Sitting Volleyball World Cup. On Friday, the Spartans are wearing yellow ribbons in their hair and warm up shirts to honour Anna. The shirt reads “Without fear, there can be no courage”. These are words Anna has always lived by. We thank you in advance for your generosity as you visit our donation and bake sale table under the tent on the track. All donations and proceeds tonight from our bake sale will go to the Cross Cancer Institute where Anna received her treatment.
