Many times students ask as to what is the difference between T&D and L&D? That is why, in this session I am discussing about some of the major differences between training and development and L&D. It is very essential here to understand that L&D operates in a VUCA world, which is more dynamic and ever changing world characterized by rapidly changing technology. Hence in this knowledge driven economy, it is essential for organizations to be more future focused in terms of emerging competencies. T&D is more instructor lead where the trainer takes active part and decides what to teach and what should be the curriculum. In case of L&D it is the learners who take a more proactive part in deciding the content or the curriculum of learning. Compared to T&D, learning and development requires an active encouragement by senior managers. In fact senior managers should act like role models in leading a learning function. Senior managers in L&D act more like guides, and mentors in learning and development. In addition to this, some other differences between T&D and L&D are discussed in the video.
