The new genetics of Turner syndrome

Prof. Claus Gravholt, MD, PhD, Aarhus University Hospital Denmark presented on the emerging data on the genetics of Turner syndrome, which points to a much more complicated picture than hitherto with different genes on the X chromosome seemingly regulating autosomal genes and the methylation profile, which seems to subtly affect the phenotype. Differences across tissues is also present. Some phenotypic characteristics are now becoming linked to specific genetic changes. This should lead to a new view of Turner syndrome and enable a more targeted approach to treatment and possibly development of new drugs.
