Caterham SP/300.R Open-Cockpit Prototype in action: 300hp Ford 2.0L Supercharged Engine Sound

This video is about a Caterham SP/300-R I saw during a track day at Circuit Paul Ricard in 2019. The car was unveiled in 2011 as the first open-cockpit prototype of the British brand Caterham, mainly famous for the lightweight sports car Seven. It was built in partnership with Lola Cars and this SP/300 has a lot of Lola in it. Starting with the chassis which is based on the aluminium monocoque chassis found in the Lola B08/90 Sports 2000 prototype. The engine is a two litre Ford Duratec built in house by Caterham and fitted with a Rotrex supercharger able to produce around 300 hp and 290 Nm of torque. Mechanically the rear end of the '300.R' is almost identical to what can be found on the Lola B05/30 F3 chassis with the suspension pickups, uprights and damper layout all being shared. The engine is linked to a Hewland semi-automatic FTR 6-speed gearbox (geared for maximum rpm in top gear at the end of Spa-Francorchamps’s Kemmel Straight).
