In this Lesson for the Koine Project Class, a review of Landmarkism begins with its "First Evaluation," focused on the topic of Inspiration versus Preservation in light of Dr. J. R. Graves book, The Work of Christ in the Covenant of Redemption, Developed in Seven Dispensations. Landmarkism: A Review In his book The Work of Christ in the Covenant of Redemption; Developed in Seven Dispensations, on page 28, he said, There may be errors in the transcription of ancient manuscripts; there may be errors in translation, and errors in many interpretations, but the ORIGINAL SCRIPTURES ARE THE WORDS OF THE LIVING GOD. He most explicitly declares them to be. I never cease to marvel at these kinds of statements by people who somehow gain recognition as a reliable authority in Bible doctrine. Graves said in defense of the Scriptures in the first paragraph, “Every paragraph and period, every sentiment and sentence and word is equally God's Word.” But he said in the second paragraph, “the ORIGINAL SCRIPTURES ARE THE WORDS OF THE LIVING GOD.” The two different statements by Graves concerning the Scriptures remind me of the analysis a good black preacher made of a liberal preacher's sermon. He said, “the last half of what he said erased the first half, so when he finished, he had said nothing.” Since Graves believed that the only place the Word of God existed was in the “ORIGINAL SCRIPTURES” (which neither he nor any person alive today has ever seen, much less [more] owned a copy of) he could tell the reader whatever he wanted to and claim it to be Bible truth, and no one could prove him wrong. But we do have a copy of the perfectly preserved Word of God in the English language and can easily enough prove that J. R. Graves, in his philosophy of Landmarkism, was in error. When one has more interest in promoting an erroneous doctrine than in rightly dividing the Word of truth, he will usually discredit, disregard or change the wording of any document, including the Scriptures that does not support his errors. Graves did this very thing many times in his book" (Fellure, Jim. The Church That Jesus Promised to Build Versus Old Landmarkism Kindle Edition).
