CataractCoach™ 1869: posterior polar cataract with EDOF IOL

This patient has a congenital posterior polar cataract which has recently worsened and become more opaque. It is certainly limiting the vision and the patient is very symptomatic. Cataract surgery for posterior polar cataracts is very different than a standard cataract surgery because the capsular bag at the site of the polar opacity is very fragile and weak, or even sometimes absent. This poses a challenge for this case since the patient desires an extended depth of focus (EDOF) intra-ocular lens (IOL) which must be placed in the capsular bag. Of course we will avoid hydro-dissection and instead only perform a limited hydro-delineation. The cortex and epi-nucleus will be separated from the posterior capsule using careful visco-disection with a dispersive OVD.
