Five years ago this week, family separation under Zero Tolerance became the nation’s de facto asylum practice at the U.S.–Mexico border — separating thousands of children from their parents, with no notice, no information, and no plan for reunification. Today we are facing another moral crisis: families seeking safety and asylum have been turned away and returned to the countries they fled for over three years under Title 42 — and even more extreme deterrence tactics are being implemented at the southern border in preparation for the pandemic-era policy to be lifted. We’ve come together to defend and uphold human rights when our government acts against our human rights. We can do it again. We can win lasting change. How far would you go?
