Downhill beach is a lovely place to spend the day or afternoon - its close to Coleraine and Derry/Londonderry - it is also part of the Causeway Coast and Glen route. Well worth a visit if in Castlerock! Castlerock is known to be a seaside village that is located in county Londonderry, Northern Ireland, it is situated five miles away from Coleraine and is part of Causeway Coast and Glens district. Downhill beach is one of the different attractions of this village that make it one of the important places for summer vacations. For this touristic significance that Downhill Beach carries, you will find numerous apartment blocks there for those coming to visit the village which they could rent and three caravan sites, giving the tourists all the options they could have to choose from. Downhill Beach is part of an 11km stretch of sand and surf that offers people lots of different sports activities that come in addition to the walks that one could do there. One of the different things that differentiate this beach from some of the others in Northern Ireland is the fact that cars are allowed there all the year. This beach is a Blue Flag Award Beach back in 2015. In addition to becoming a touristic attraction for being a beautiful beach, Downhill is also an Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI) and also a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) that offer different opportunities of nature walks and sightings of bird life that come among some waterfalls, extensive sand dunes and the prominent Mussenden Temple which is one of the most photographed buildings in Northern Ireland - this temple is beautiful for the views it tends to offer for the North Coast and the dramatic 18th century ruins which are waiting for people to explore them. Even though Downhill is close to Derry, Coleraine, Portrush and Portstewart, it is considered the closest to Castlrock (   • Portstewart Strand, Portrush, Northern Ire...  ) and this could bring you to check some of the attractions found in these places and which might be of any interest to you. Castlerock is known to have pubs and restaurants which one could check and even sit at any of them. Downhill Beach shares a border with Benone Strand which is a great beach for adventure sports such as jet skiing, kite surfing, gliding and surfing. People can fish, Canoe, cycle, swim and walk anytime of the year they wish to be there. During the high season, you will find a life guard there who will help with any problems or situations which make people feel more safe and more at ease.
