Experience the frozen beauty of Niagara Falls in the heart of winter! This video takes you on a scenic walking tour starting near Table Rock, moving past the thundering Horseshoe Falls, and then through the serene, snow-covered paths of Dufferin Islands. The highlight of this walk is the incredible view of the Niagara River Ice Bridge. Below the falls, you can see the massive buildup of ice and snow that has transformed the river into a jagged, frozen landscape. ❄️ The History of the Ice Bridge The "Ice Bridge" is a natural phenomenon formed when millions of tons of ice crystals and frozen mist flow over the falls and jam together in the gorge below. A Winter Playground: In the late 19th century, the ice bridge was a massive winter attraction. Thousands of people would walk onto the frozen river to socialize, drink hot chocolate at makeshift huts, and even sled down the "ice mounds" that reached heights of 50 feet. The 1912 Tragedy: This tradition came to a sudden and tragic end on February 4, 1912. A sudden shift in the river caused the ice to break apart while people were still on it. Three people were swept downriver and lost their lives. The Ban: Following that event, walking on the ice bridge was strictly prohibited by law. Today, we admire its power and beauty from the safety of the shorelines—exactly what this video captures. 📍 Locations in this Video: Table Rock Welcome Centre: The best vantage point for the brink of the Horseshoe Falls. Niagara River Parkway: Watching the "Ice Bridge" pack into the gorge. Dufferin Islands: A peaceful detour through secluded bridges and frozen waterways.
