Reading & Northern: Anthracite Express

On Labor day, Monday, September 1st, we ventured out to the Reading & Northern railroad to witness the 425 pulling a photographer special. Though the CNJ 113 was supposed to doublehead with the 425, break troubles kept it in Port Clinton following the first runby. The 425 took 5 hoppers, three passenger cars and a caboose from Port Clinton to Mahanoy City and back with photo runbys along the way. She also wore 4 different whistles throughout the day: a Reading Hooter to start off, a Lackawanna hooter from Tamaqua Tunnel to Mahanoy City, a Nathan 3 chime from Mahanoy City to Haucks wye, and then an N&W hooter for the remainder of the trip. The R&N put on a great show and it wad a good time had by all! So please sit back, relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds from the "Road of Anthracite"!
