This is Smog, released in 1973 in Mexico on RCA (MKSJ-8023) as part of the Serie Juventud series. By this point Dug Dug’s had already established themselves as one of the most important rock bands to come out of Mexico, blending psychedelic rock, heavy riffs, and progressive ideas into their sound. Formed in Durango in the late 1960s and later relocating to Mexico City, Dug Dug’s were pioneers of the early Mexican rock movement. Their music evolved from garage and psychedelia into a heavier, more expansive style, and Smog captures the band right in that transition. The album mixes hard rock energy with psychedelic textures and longer experimental passages. Tracks like Smog and Buscalo deliver heavy guitar riffs and driving rhythms, while the extended Potpurri medley showcases the band’s more progressive and improvisational side. Released during a difficult era for rock in Mexico following the Avándaro festival and the crackdown on rock music, Smog stands as an important document of the resilience and creativity of the Mexican underground scene. This copy is definitely a survivor. The cover is in really rough condition and the vinyl itself is probably a weak VG-, but it actually plays surprisingly well.
