Dear All, This is NOT a discussion on the Religion Valluvar practised! This is a reaction to the depiction of Valluvar in a National School Syllabus Textbook! The ask is simple - maintain a single image of Valluvar and keep religion out of literature so it may endure un-shadowed. Let's understand: Valluvar is caste and religion neutral so his words can go far and wide! Why? 1. His Kural exhibits this 2. There is not enough information to refute this, since in the absence of an author explanation, all words are subject to individual interpretation. Matter of fact, 'Valluvan' is considered a bestowed title, since his actual name itself is unknown. This is a fact that should be celebrated for its liberating uniqueness! It should be his USP! Not cheaply contested by personal agenda or small minds! He is A CLASSICAL THAMIZH AUTHOR, not a religious leader. The Kural is A RELIGION NEUTRAL CLASSICAL THAMIZH work of LITERATURE. Interpretation as vedic or religious esotericism is personal. Let's keep religion and caste out of literature. If people want to worship him, adorn him how you want. That's personal freedom. If people want to popularise him, regardless of their agenda we say, please do! But retain the official TN Government sanctioned image. Why? 1. It ensures continuity for posterity 2. The official image exists 3. He is a man Let's not digress by bringing other issues into this and connecting things that have no places here. Focus - future forward, to retain a treasure that endures.
