We return to the crisp autumn shores of Marquette, Michigan. A quaint place, quiet and all American, nestled on to the coastline of the aptly named great lake, Lake Superior. The place where songwriter, and good friend, John Davey has ended up calling home, for this chapter of his life. Always a midwest man, i'd met him on one of his countless tours up and down the east coast, and for a spell he lived in Nashville. Then he met a girl, his lovely wife Mary, had a kid, and the rest is, well you know, history. For this installment, we ended up on the shores of downtown, watching the sailing enthusiasts shove out into the lake and the giant ore boats drift back and forth on the water. There's something calming about the lake, so vast it looks like the shore of an ocean. John tells me he wrote this song as a sort of tribute to the religious Christmas hymns he grew up singing, a lullaby dedicated to the town he calls home. Again he amazes me with his melodic playing style, up and down the neck, invoking an orchestra with nothing but his calming voice and guitar. He's still writing songs, and recently delivered not only a baby into the world, but a new album called Toss Your Javelin, the contents of which I recommend full force. You can find it on Spotify, and also all of his albums on Bandcamp. https://johndavey.bandcamp.com/ Special thank you to VJ Arizpe, Josh and Beth Collins, Edward Siple, Kenny Schmidt, Brady Jones, Richard Harmon, Jonathon Hammond, Kurt Busness, and Mark Riley for making this episode possible.
