Starlet Wahu murder trial: Arresting officer tells court how John Matara was traced after killing

A police officer attached to South B Police Station has told the court how he discovered the murder scene of Starlet Wahu and later arrested John Matara in connection with her killing at Fakino Apartments, South B, on January 4, 2024. The officer testified that while on duty at around 12:30 a.m., he received a report of an unknown dead body and, together with other officers, proceeded to an Airbnb unit on the fourth floor where they found a naked female body lying in a pool of blood. Members of the public informed police that a man wrapped in a blood-stained white towel had been seen leaving the apartment, leading officers to trace the suspect to South B Hospital and later Mbagathi District Hospital. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old John Matara Ongoa, was found receiving treatment while wearing blood-stained clothes and was arrested. According to the officer, Matara told police that the deceased, Starlet, was his girlfriend and admitted that they had a scuffle during which he stabbed her on the right thigh. Police said investigations into the murder are ongoing.
