Today we're going to take a look at the Dexter 10" by 2-1/4" left-hand driver side electric trailer brake assembly, with a parking brake and a 3,500 pound weight capacity. Electric brakes are a lot easier to install. They offer more user control than hydraulic brakes. Electric brakes will require only an electric brake controller, which we do sell separately on our website. There is no actuator or hydraulic lines necessary. This size is a 10" by 2-1/4" driver side electric trailer brake assembly. When they say 10", that would be measured from here to here, the diameter. There is your 10". Then the 2-1/4 is actually the width of the pad on the shoe. There's your 2-1/4. Again, this is the left-hand driver side assembly. The way you tell that now, in most new assemblies you'll get a sticker that will say right-hand or left-hand so you'll know. If that sticker wasn't on there, the easiest way to tell is you look at the length of the shoe, the pad on the shoe. You can see the pad goes from here to here. On this shoe, it goes all the way from here to here. This is the shorter pad. The shorter pad is the primary shoe and that will face the front of the trailer. When you install this with this going to the front, this would make this the left-hand or driver side assembly. These brakes shoes are lined with an automotive grade friction material. This friction material is fully bonded. It's not riveted to the shoes. It gives you a lot longer life and more braking torque. This is a manual adjustment brake, so there is periodic manual adjustment required on this. There is a parking brake included on this. This lever back here connects to the parking brake. This is where the parking brake cable on your trailer would attach to the lever right here. This assembly is certified by US SAE standards and CSA standards. Again, this is a left-hand driver side assembly. The dimensions again, 10" by 2-1/4" wide. It is for an axle rating of 3,500 pounds. It is designed to use 10" brake drums. The mounting flange, this is designed to be used on a four bolt brake mounting flange. You can see the studs right here. Does include the four nuts to install this and also the rubber adjuster plugs, which are already popped in here. You can see they pop out to be able to adjust the brakes. Then when you're done, you pop them in there. That's nice to have because it keeps any dirt or grime from getting into your brake assembly. This assembly is made in the USA. Again, these are electric brakes, so you'll notice the two green wires in the back coming out of here for the magnet. Basically, these need to be connected. One goes to the brake feed. One goes to a ground. They're both green wires so you can use either wire for either function.
