Diagnosing Daikin F3 Error (Gas Leak)

In this video I attend a service call where the Daikin Air Conditioner was flashing F3 on the wall controller. F3: Compressor Discharge Pipe Over Temperature Fault. This is stating that the discharge pipe temperature has increased greatly above normal operation levels (more than 134 Degrees Celsius). This can be caused by a fault with the compressor if the oil return to it is poor. In that case it would start to run hot. In this case it was caused by a shortage of refrigerant not cooling the compressor effectively. This fault is produced by thermistor R3T. I located the leak on the base of the rusted out compressor. The system is 21 years old and for that reason, the customer has decided to replace the entire system.
