http://londontranslations.co.uk which languages are in the minority? • Translation Services With Fast & Accurate ... A recently released article on The Guardian website has asked the question, 'How can minority languages survive in the digital age?' In today's video, we discuss whether digital advancements will help or hinder the use of minority languages globally. Suggestions have recently been made that minority languages are more under threat than ever due to society's reliance on technology. It is suggested that English is the language that has dominated the global use of technology in both our personal and professional lives, creating a threat to minority languages which have traditionally relied on informal use to survive. As technology is changing the way in which we communicate, will there be a place for minority languages? However, some do argue that language technology advancements have the potential to allow minority languages to reach wider audiences as well as allow communication between individuals who do not speak the same language. We asked a spokesperson for London Translations whether he believes digital advancements threaten minority languages... Whilst English is undoubtedly the dominant business language, the internet and easy access to translators has allowed those who speak minority languages to reach out to more people than ever and we believe it could actually be the saviour of some minority languages as it allows speakers to connect keep the language alive. In an increasing homogenous world, there is renewed interest in culturally and linguistic diversity which we see as a very positive development. We'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter.
