The evil reservation system (*) goes into effect on October 1 and stays in effect until May 31. Naturally, I was visiting Red Rock almost every day for the last 10 days before then. If you show up without a reservation, and it's not booked up - it rarely is on weekdays - you still have to pay the reservation fee, even though you don't have one, don't need one, and received no benefit from the system. If you show up without a reservation, they still have to get your personal information and make a reservation for you in the system. That's why the lines are so long at the entrance.
