Nob End Locks, located near Little Lever in Bolton, England, are a significant historical feature of the Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal. Constructed between 1791 and 1796, the canal was designed to connect Manchester with Bolton and Bury, facilitating the transport of goods such as coal from local collieries. At Nob End, the canal overcame a 64-foot elevation difference through a series of six locks arranged in two staircases of three, with a passing basin between them. This engineering feat enabled vessels to transition between the canal's various arms. In 2012, a distinctive footbridge known as the "Meccano Bridge" was installed at the top of the locks. Designed by artist Liam Curtin, the bridge is constructed from large-scale Meccano pieces and offers visitors panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Today, Nob End is recognized as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Local Nature Reserve, reflecting its rich industrial heritage and ecological importance. The area has transformed from a former waste tip to a haven for rare orchids and dragonflies, making it a valuable spot for both history enthusiasts and nature lovers
