Texas Two-Step Tuesdays #TX2StepTues is hosted by Susan @iturtleyloveit This is a prompted bi-weekly open collaboration, 12 prompts total, running through June. Western or desert theme is not required! Today’s prompt is Ranch Fence. Next prompt is Tin Star Treasure, featuring elements that shine. The Texas Panhandle is on the Llano Estacado, the southern end of the great plains. It lies mostly between I-40 and I-20. I mean, there’s some state north of I-40 but it gets real empty, real fast. The great plains has the lowest population density in the US because it is dry. The Texas panhandle was formed when Texas went from Republic to state and traded claims to parts of what are now Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming for $10 million towards its debts. The area is known for cattle ranching, oil & gas, and wind energy. The famous XIT Ranch was formed when 3 million acres were swapped for construction of the new state capital building in Austin. Ranching is prevalent because the area is dry (about 20” of rain annually), making crop farming challenging, although wine grapes are grown successfully in the area. The dry climate means temperatures can swing up to 100 degrees (56 celsius) a day. The area is also known for Palo Duro Canyon, second in size only to the Grand Canyon in the USA. Car shapes for “Cadillac Ranch” are from Waffle Flower Limo Ride. Car shape for page tab is from Sizzix 666288 Road Trip Colorize by Tim Holtz. Cattle head is from Ellentina DCM144. Alphabet is from Sizzix 666338 Santa Greetings. For my project, I’m working on my binder of things to see and do in Texas. I had all this in a bin which was not effective - the bin was too heavy, it was too hard to look through or add to. I’m making decorative section header pages and tabs.
