Bangladesh MP Murder Mystery Deepens: Woman Detained in 'Honey Trap' Probe

Dhaka police have detained a woman believed to be involved in a potential "honey trap" scenario leading to the murder. Identified as Shilanti Rahman, she's a Bangladeshi national and reportedly the girlfriend of the prime accused, Akhtaruzzaman Shahin. Akhtaruzzaman, a US citizen and a friend of the late MP, is at the center of the investigation. Anwarul Azim Anwar was allegedly murdered in Akhtaruzzaman's rented accommodation in Kolkata's New Town area. Shilanti Rahman was reportedly present in Kolkata during the time of the murder and later returned to Dhaka with the main suspected killer, Amanullah Aman, on May 15th. Police sources suggest that Shilanti may have been used as part of a scheme to lure Anwarul from Bangladesh to Kolkata. While the motive of the crime is yet to be officially announced, sources indicate that Akhtaruzzaman may have had a dispute with the MP over certain payments, with allegations that he paid around Rs 5 crore to those involved. The investigation took a significant turn when the West Bengal Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested a suspect in Mumbai. Jihad Hawladar, the suspect, confessed to his involvement in the murder, along with four others, at the New Town flat. Hawladar's chilling confession detailed the dismemberment of the victim's body to conceal their identity. Hawladar, a professional butcher from Bangladesh, had been residing in Mumbai illegally before arriving in Kolkata around two months ago, according to CID sources.
