There is some dispute as to how closely Alice Liddell can be identified with the Alice in Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", however there is no doubt that she was the book's original inspiration. Both "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There" were dedicated to her and there is an acrostic poem at the end of "Through the Looking-Glass" which spells out her name, (read the first letter of each line).
