Architects who build children’s museums designed our hospital, which opened in 2012. Research shows nature and objects in flight inspire healing, so we brought the outdoors inside. Designed as a fun escape for patients, visitors walk into a two-story atrium celebrating the natural world, with abundant daylight, views of exterior gardens and a forest-themed interactive play area. The Magic Forest is an area of respite for patients, families and staff. This is a place to rest and discover; with seek-and-find games on the walls, a tunnel that turns regular kids into earthworms, large, fabricated trees and an ever-changing light and soundscape that changes with the time of day and seasons. Everywhere you look throughout the main hospital, you’ll find our beloved Animal Friends. They’re all hand-crafted from solid wood, and each one comes with a story to inspire and delight our patients.
