Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called a last-minute summit on Friday to discuss the threat of U.S. tariffs. But it was the prime minister’s hot mic remarks, made behind closed doors, that are stealing the spotlight. He warned U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to Canadian sovereignty is no joke. Touria Izri reports. Canadian security officials say Chrystia Freeland’s Liberal leadership bid has been targeted by a malicious foreign interference campaign. Mackenzie Gray reports on the concerns and on Freeland’s response. Late Friday, a judge issued a temporary order blocking the Trump administration from taking steps to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The agency delivers billions of dollars in aid worldwide to help alleviate poverty, drive vaccinations and assist with natural disaster recovery. As Candice Cole reports, the Trump administration is slashing its staff from thousands to just hundreds. An asteroid impact today could be devastating. But a few billion years ago, an impact may have helped life exist. Scientists hope to learn more about that possibility with recently extracted samples from an asteroid called “Bennu”.
