Our tour of Kanazawa began along the serene Asano River, where cherry trees gracefully arch over the water, creating a tranquil retreat from the urban bustle. The river’s gentle flow set a peaceful tone for our day’s exploration. Just a short walk from the river, we entered the historic Higashi Chaya District. This neighborhood, alive with the legacy of geisha culture, charmed us with its traditional wooden teahouses and narrow cobblestone streets. Each shopfront in the district offered a glimpse into the artisanal heritage of Kanazawa, especially renowned for its exquisite gold leaf artistry. We continued to Kanazawa Castle Park, where the grandeur of the past was palpable in the majestic gates and high stone walls. The castle’s grounds were expansive, inviting us to linger among the ancient trees and meticulously maintained gardens that spoke of centuries-old landscaping traditions. Our cultural journey culminated at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa. This museum, known for its futuristic architecture, contrasts starkly with the historical sites we’d visited.
