JOURNEY TOWARDS THE CROSS — DAY 6 24 Feb (Tue) | 9.00 pm Faith Steps into the Unknown 📖 Genesis 12:1–9 The Call of Abraham ⸻ 🌍 Introduction — When God Interrupts Ordinary Life Genesis 12 marks one of the greatest turning points in Scripture. After creation, fall, flood, and covenant, God now begins His plan of redemption through one person. Abram is not searching for God. God searches for Abram. “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” Notice: God gives a command before giving details. Faith begins where certainty ends. Lent reminds us that following God often means leaving spiritual comfort zones. ⸻ 1️⃣ The Call Requires Leaving (Genesis 12:1) God asks Abram to leave three things: • Country → security • People → identity • Father’s house → inheritance Theological Insight Faith is not merely believing new ideas; it is reordering loyalties. Salvation history begins with separation — not isolation, but consecration. Just as Israel leaves Egypt later, and Jesus leaves heaven in incarnation, faith always involves holy departure. Faith costs something. ⸻ 2️⃣ Promise Before Proof (Genesis 12:2–3) God gives Abram seven promises: • I will make you a great nation. • I will bless you. • I will make your name great. • You will be a blessing. • I will bless those who bless you. • I will curse those who curse you. • All nations will be blessed through you. Abram sees none of this immediately. Deep Theology God’s promises operate in future grace, not present evidence. Faith trusts the character of God more than visible outcomes. The Cross itself will later appear like failure before resurrection reveals promise fulfilled. ⸻ 3️⃣ Obedience Without Explanation (Genesis 12:4) One of the simplest yet most powerful verses: “So Abram went, as the LORD had told him.” No argument. No negotiation. No timeline request. Faith moves when God speaks. Abram walks toward a destination God has not yet revealed. Lenten Truth We often want clarity before obedience. God often gives clarity after obedience. ⸻ 4️⃣ Altars Along the Journey (Genesis 12:7–8) Wherever Abram goes, he builds an altar. Altars represent: • worship, • dependence, • remembrance. Abram’s journey is not merely geographical — it is spiritual formation. Faith is sustained not by destination but by worship along the way. ⸻ ✝️ Christological Fulfillment Abram’s call points toward Christ: Abraham Christ Leaves homeland Leaves heavenly glory Walks by faith Walks in perfect obedience Blessing to nations Salvation to all people Builds altars Becomes the sacrifice The promise “all nations will be blessed” finds fulfillment in Jesus Christ. The journey begun in Genesis 12 leads directly to Calvary. ⸻ 🌿 Lenten Application God still calls people today: • away from sin, • away from fear, • away from self-reliance. Faith is not knowing the whole map — it is trusting the One who leads. Your next step with God may feel uncertain, but obedience turns unknown paths into sacred journeys. 🔥 Powerful Lines • Faith begins when familiarity ends. • God rarely reveals the destination before the decision. • Obedience writes the story that faith believes. • The greatest miracles begin with a step you cannot fully explain. 🙏 Closing Prayer Lord, give me the courage of Abraham — to walk when You call, to trust when I cannot see, and to believe that Your promises are greater than my fears. Lead me step by step toward Your cross and resurrection. Amen.
