The series was compiled from video testimonies of the Museum’s Audiovisual Archive. Selected memories are presented as five stories, which reveal the life of women during different periods of Latvian history, namely, during the World War II, emigration and exile, as well as in occupied Latvia, including resistance to Soviet authorities, repressions and deportations. These are stories about a woman as a Mother, about care and aid, the ability to overcome pain and to have the courage to survive, and never-ending love. Each story includes photos from the Museum’s collection and family archives. This is a story about love. About love towards people and life. At the end of the war, Lilija Klucis became a refugee. She came to Flensburg, a small town in Germany, where her wedding took place. Her wedding dress was a symbolic Bārta national costume, sown from old clothes. Due to wear and tear, Lilija feared the dress might fall apart at the altar. Before her wedding, Valentīna Dzedzele was anxiously asking her future husband: “Will you really marry me? I was deported.” The exiled Hēlija’s Staņislavska’s mother Kēta was convinced, that they had to return home to Latvia, despite the hardships, which might await them there. Skaidrīte Meldriņa tells a touching story about a girl Māra, whom she met in a forced labour camp and who, despite being very weak, found the strength to save a butterfly from being stepped on. Love never ends.
