[ENG sub] DIR EN GREY ● Itoshisa ha fuhai ni tsuki (愛しさは腐敗につき)

"愛しさは腐敗につき- Itoshisa ha fuhai ni tsuki" - "Love accompanies decay" This live version is from the "TOUR16-17 FROM DEPRESSION TO mode of WITHERING TO DEATH" DVD. As you probably know by now, Kyo likes to be rather vague in his phrasing, sometimes leaving huge gaps for others to fill in. As a translator, I can't possibly fill in all those gaps that not even the Japanese are entirely sure of how to deal with. I can try to give you my interpretation, but it won't be the same as reading the original. But that's pointing out the obvious. When I first translated this song 8 years ago, I had only just begun learning Japanese and frankly, I had little idea of what I was doing. A beginner cannot understand complex grammar, nor can they notice nuances or a slight change of tone. And it was foolish to even attempt to translate multi-layered poetry. If you have read the old translation, please erase it from your memory. Today I can only apologize from the bottom of my heart and hope that this new translation will do the original at least a little justice. Initially I had meant to use older footage for this re-sub, namely the one I had been using before in 2011 where the visual effects projected onto the stage actually look like ashes fluttering in the air. However, when I watched the "mode of WtD" and saw and heard how utterly beautiful and mesmerizing it was, I couldn't help myself. I had to choose it. Notes: 1) 2:11 - "だから…　もう - dakara... mou" I'm not sure what Kyo is mouthing after this line, (especially since parts of his lips are also hidden behind his finger,) to me it looks (and feels) like "終わり- owari" ("over"). Although context-wise (and looking at his gesture) it could also be "silent" ("静かだ - shizuka da"). ~This is my translation / interpretation.
