"Danzon No. 2" by Arturo Marquez, performed by the CJMEA 2026 High School Wind Ensemble conducted by Dr. Thomas McCauley. Danzón No. 2 is an orchestral composition by Mexican composer Arturo Márquez written for full orchestra. It was commissioned by the National Autonomous University of Mexico's Department of Musical Activities and was premiered in 1994 in Mexico City by the Orchestra Filarmonica de la UNAM under the direction of Francisco Savín. Danzón No. 2 is one of the most popular and most frequently performed Mexican contemporary classical orchestral compositions. It is celebrated as a symbol of Mexican music and culture, to the extent of being colloquially known as the second national anthem of Mexico.
