Liver CT Anatomy | Surfaces, Lobes, Ligaments & Fissures, Porta Hepatis, Portal Vein, Hepatic Artery Surfaces: Diaphragmatic Surface (Superior): This convex surface faces anteriorly and superiorly, and it is in contact with the diaphragm. This surface is smooth and divided into right and left by the falciform ligament. Visceral Surface (Inferior): This is the more varied and complex surface. It's in contact with several organs: the right kidney and adrenal gland, gallbladder, stomach, esophagus, and duodenum, as well as the transverse colon. Lobes: Right Lobe: The largest lobe, which occupies the right side of the liver. Left Lobe: Smaller than the right, it lies on the left side and is separated from the right lobe by the falciform ligament. Caudate Lobe: Located on the liver's posterosuperior surface, it's positioned between the left lobe and the inferior vena cava. Quadrate Lobe: Located between the gallbladder fossa and the round ligament (ligamentum teres). Ligaments & Fissures & Blood Vessels: Falciform Ligament: Divides the liver into left and right lobes anteriorly. It attaches the liver to the anterior abdominal wall and diaphragm. Ligamentum Teres (Round Ligament): Represents the remnant of the fetal umbilical vein; found within the free edge of the falciform ligament. Ligamentum Venosum: A remnant of the fetal ductus venosus; it's found on the visceral surface. Porta Hepatis (Hilum): A transverse fissure on the visceral surface where vessels and ducts enter and exit the liver. It contains the hepatic artery, portal vein, and common bile duct.
