Wide shot soldiers at airport STORYLINE: The bodies of two Italian soldiers killed in a bomb attack in Afghanistan were returned to Italy on Sunday night on a military flight. The two victims, Lieutenant Manuel Fiorito, 27, and warrant officer Luca Polsinelli, 28, were honoured in a military ceremony attended by outgoing Italian president Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. They died when one of two Italian military vehicles travelling together about 16 kilometres (10 miles) south of Kabul on Friday was hit by a bomb. Taliban-inspired militants have stepped up attacks in recent months, particularly in southern Afghanistan, the heartland of the hard-line regime before it was ousted by U.S.-led forces in late 2001. Kabul and the surrounding areas are more secure, but there too there are periodic attacks. Italy has suffered three previous fatalities in Afghanistan. Until last Thursday, Italian forces commanded NATO''s 10,000-strong security forces, ISAF(International Security Assistance Force), which are now under British control after a routine leadership handover. Italy has more than 1,600 troops in the country, mostly based in Kabul. 59 ISAF soldiers have now been killed in Afghanistan since 2001.
