On October 1, 2024, the Guard Battalion was placed under the Military Police Command. This subordination is part of a larger restructuring of the Bundeswehr. Previously, the Guard Battalion was placed under the Territorial Command (TFK). The TFK was combined with the Operations Command to form the Operational Command. When the Guard Battalion was founded in 1956, it was already planned to make use of the infantry skills of the soldiers of the Guard Battalion for the benefit of the Military Police - as a kind of follow-on use.
