Today we are talking about the upcoming bans and this weekend's Mythic Championship V winner Javier Dominguez's stunning victory. Gruul Embercleave is NASTY! #HelloGoodGame #MTGARENA Donate: https://streamlabs.com/hellogoodgame Discord: / discord Decklist: https://aetherhub.com/Deck/Public/175815 Twitch: / hellogoodgame Website: https://mtgazone.com/ Video Start 1:15 Throne of Eldraine standard right now in unnatural to say the least. Oko has busted onto the scene in a way not too many people might have been expecting, Field of the Dead is still extremely powerful post Scapeshift rotation, and people are trying to figure out how to beat these decks consistently without having to join them. What happened to a fun standard? Should Wizards ban either of these cards or both of them? Oko can be played on as early as turn two. A planeswalker being able to plus up to six loyalty turn two is hard to deal with unless you have a card that says “destroy target planeswalker”. Oko provides both a health cushion and a potential clock on a plus that probably should have been a minus, being able to convert any artifact or creature of yours to base P/T 3/3. Absurd. I have yet to see how relevant his minus five can be, but I’m sure I just haven’t looked hard enough. That plus that can be a clock for you can also be a neutralizer for your opponent’s creatures with good abilities, or that are larger than 3/3 that you can take off the pressure. Oko simply protects both himself and his owner to easily and too quickly to be allowed. Field of the Dead presents a little less of a problem than Oko since it takes a lot longer to get started, but once it’s started it is much worse. There’s MAYBE just a handful of cards that can deal with Field of the Dead, which also doesn’t allow recursion either. Once Field of the Dead has been activated it consistently produces plenty of power. Not to mention that there can be multiple on the field at a time. The bant version of this FotD deck has been something else entirely to me. Consistency is what can really make a deck powerful, and this deck has no problem without it seems. So what’s the answer? Should these cards be banned? Should Wizards stop printing really powerful cards that they gotta ban because people realize their potential too quickly? (Sorry Hogaak). I think my answer is to wait. As painful as it sounds, wait. We’re not very far into the new standard. There’s always that deck that arises when a new set drops that people think is really powerful, but it falls off sooner or later. Remember Jeskai Planeswalkers when War of the Spark came out? Don’t think we were seeing barely any of those lists prior to rotation. Now, don’t get me wrong, if any of these cards do get banned it wouldn’t be the end of my world. I just want what is best at the end of the day for a healthy format. I know it’s hard to please everyone, but if they did get banned… Who knows what would be the new archenemy.. Gruul Aggro with Embercleave? (a personal favourite) The Selesnya or Golgari explore decks? Mono-Red? Guess we’ll find out since we have a BnR announcement coming today. ~-~~-~~~-~~-~ Please watch: "MTG Arena F2P 0 RARE Diamond Rank Orzhov Auras Guide for Beginners" • MTG Arena F2P 0 RARE Diamond Rank Orzhov A... ~-~~-~~~-~~-~
