But here’s the upside: you don’t have to take your car to a service center. With the right tools and a little time, you can retrofit the OEM HomeLink module yourself. In this video, I’ll show you step-by-step how to get it done on a Model Y Juniper. 🚘 What’s HomeLink Anyway? HomeLink is Tesla’s original integrated garage door opener—it automatically opens and closes your garage based on where your car is. My older Model 3 came with it, no monthly fees or extra installs. But with newer Teslas, you’ll need to purchase and install it separately if you want that seamless, built-in feel. 🛠️ Parts You’ll Need: HomeLink Module Tesla OEM Bracket: 1098355-00-B Module: 1114984-00-B 10mm socket stubby preferred Ratchet or short wrench Trim removal tool or flathead screwdriver 🔧 Installation Overview: Switch to Service Mode Preps the car for safe maintenance by turning off certain systems. Remove Frunk Trim Pop off the upper trim panels and take out the frunk tub for access. Get to the Washer Reservoir Unscrew the bolts holding the reservoir. Carefully tip it back—you don’t need to unplug anything. Mount the Bracket This is the tricky part. Tight space, awkward angles. A longer bolt and stubby ratchet make life easier. 💡 Tip: Removing the front bumper gives more working room—totally optional. Install the Module Plug it in, snap it into the bracket, and make sure it’s aligned properly 💻 Software Setup in Your Tesla: Head to Controls - Service - HomeLink. You should see a Run Retrofit option if everything’s connected. Press the brake, activate the right turn signal, and follow the prompts. Your Tesla will unlock and activate the HomeLink system. 🧪 Test It Out: Run a quick test from the settings menu. If it passes, pair your garage door and you’re all set—your car will now automatically open and close the garage as you arrive or leave. ✅ Why Bother? Sure, the install can be a bit of a pain. But once it’s done, you’ve got a fast, offline, no-subscription garage opener that feels like it came factory-installed. It’s smoother, more reliable, and just makes life easier.
