Britain attacked their strongest allies - France - just after the fall of France in the second world war. A fleet of British ships opened fire on French ships in a port of Africa. This was sanctioned by Winston Churchill, and is known as Operation Catapult. It is also known as the battle of Mers-el-Kébir. It was a British naval attack on French Navy ships at the naval base at Mers El Kébir, at Oran, on the coast of French Algeria. The attack was the main part of Operation Catapult, a British plan to neutralise or destroy French ships to prevent them from falling into German hands after the Allied defeat in the Battle of France. ---------------------------------------------------------------- My World War 2 playlist: • World War 2: From Beginning to End -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My vlogging channel: / Канал My Instagram page: / jigyasium -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #worldwar2 #OperationCatapult #ww2
