Remembering our Umrah (minor pilgrimage) a year ago- I captured this time-lapse on the morning of 21st March 2016. It was our last Fajr (morning) prayer there and I wanted to share the awe I felt looking upon the Ka’aba and the thousands of people performing tawaf (circumambulating the Ka’aba) and engaged in prayer and worship. This is the focal point of our daily prayers and it really is a chance to see the unity among the Ummah (community). People from all walks of life, from every nation you could think of, different colours and speaking different languages all in one place; all uniting in worshipping our Lord. We see the people forming concentric rings and Salah (prayer) begins- It is truly mesmerising to watch. And then the sea of people engage once again in tawaf (circumambulating the Ka’aba). This nasheed (chants/song) by Ahmed Al-Hajri - Bayt Allah/ House of Allah fit so perfectly with what I wished to capture. Quote from The Noble Qur’an: Surah al -Baqarah 128: رَبَّنَا وَاجْعَلْنَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ لَكَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِنَآ أُمَّةً مُّسْلِمَةً لَّكَ وَأَرِنَا مَنَاسِكَنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَآ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ “Our Lord, and make us Muslims [in submission] to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You. And show us our rites [all the ceremonies of pilgrimage – Hajj and Umrah] and accept our repentance.
