After a Simon's Cat animation was put on YouTube, creator Simon Tofield's creation quickly reached a vast global audience, with over 45million viewers thought to have watched the antics of his cat. By 2008 he had a dedicated YouTube channel and website. He has since clinched deals with the likes of Disney and publisher Canongate, and Simon's Cat has become a runaway hit. Now an exclusive new film, Draw My Life, has been made to celebrate the animation's fifth birthday, hand drawn in traditional Simon's Cat fashion. "I've always loved to draw, as far back as I can remember I've always been drawing," he said. At the same time as his interest is drawing was growing, Tofield also became fond of felines. "I got my first cat when I was nine-years-old, her name was Shelley, and she was a very shy, very timid little farm cat." After 13 years as a commercial animator, he moved into digital animation. Then he produced a short animated film about his own cat, which unbeknownst to him was copied from his showreel and put on YouTube, rapidly attracting huge attention. In real life, Tofield has 4 cats - Jess, Maisy, Hugh and Teddy and the character of Simon's Cat is inspired by their antics.
