2021 was many things: the year of Rebeca Andrade’s beautiful Cheng, the year of Jordan Chiles’s and Lu Yufei’s breakthroughs, the year of Simone Biles’s Yurchenko Double Pike, the year of Suni Lee’s Olympic title, the year of a clean and consistent Angelina Melnikova, and so much more. Take a moment to look back on this year in gymnastics, with highlights from major events like the Tokyo 2021 Olympics and the 2021 World Championships along with other important events that took place in the gymnastics world over the last 365 days. Don't blink—you'll miss it! What will you remember 2021 for? This is a bit of a departure from my regular gymnastics scoring content—no D scores and E scores being calculated here—but I thought it would be nice to make a bit of a different video. Going into the new year, I’ll try to make videos pertaining to scoring, especially under the 2022-24 Code of Points: there are a lot of rule changes that I’ll need to learn (and hopefully explain well) in the upcoming months. Lots to look forwards to! If there are any routines that you’d like to see done under this Code before it ends, let me know in the comments and I’ll try to get to them :). In this rewind, I tried to look at medal moments (think Nina Derwael or Rebeca Andrade at the Olympics), impressive narratives (think Chellsie Memmel’s unbelievable comeback or Mai Murakami’s final gold), moments of notable technical ability (think Yeo’s Yeo or Urara Ashikawa’s beam save), and viral moments (think Ou Yushan’s podium training beam routine, Urara Ashikawa’s amazing save, or Simone Biles’s Yurchenko Double Pike). I might’ve missed a bunch: let me know what you thought I should’ve included in the comments! This video is a montage: I don’t aim to include every detail of every routine, but simply to highlight a bunch of notable things that happened. It’s a “chill” rewind mainly because this type of music was the only type that I could suitably find and use, even if it’s a bit cliché :/ and I didn’t really want to make it some epic sports montage anyways—that doesn’t really fit the GymAnalysis channel brand™ as longtime viewers may agree. I don’t know if I should make more “aesthetic” videos, but if people like this one, I may have a few other ideas in mind. As always, feedback is more than welcome! (I did cut a few planned moments from the 2021 Worlds section because I was running out of time: these included Leanne Wong and Kayla DiCello’s strong performances and Luo Rui and Wei Xiaoyuan medaling on bars. I'm sorry :(. I still think these were super great moments; I just ran out of space! My software bugged out at the end, so the last transition may seem a bit weird?) I have a few videos coming up: a score of Rebeca Andrade (not her vault, which was blocked) and a score of Catalina Ponor as a bit of a throwback. I’ll make some 2022-24 videos too as soon as I’m well familiarized with the new code, and maybe even some NCAA videos? You never know—subscribe to make sure you don’t miss anything :). I currently have a video of Angelina Melnikova’s all-around performance at the 2021 World Championships that won gold under copyright dispute: Melnikova’s floor exercise is copyright blocked even though it’s fair use. I hope it’ll get resolved soon and I’ll be able to post. This montage and reflection over the year is fair use: it’s a significantly transformed, creative project in which the clips are repurposed and do not serve as replacements for the original content. You’ve read this far: wow! If you enjoyed the video, consider subscribing? It helps my channel out a lot. Thank you so much for watching my videos, and happy 2022!
