Welcome to Media and Arts TV! In this power-packed breakdown, Adeena Sabir reveals the hidden world of TV news formats—OC, VO, SOT, Packages, Donuts, PTCs, Graphics, Live Coverage, and much more. If you’ve ever wondered how television news is created, produced, and delivered behind the scenes, this is the ultimate guide for students, journalists, creators, and anyone curious about newsroom operations. From anchor openings to reporter interactions, from live broadcasts to promos, this video exposes the structure, storytelling techniques, and professional secrets used by top news channels. Watch till the end to upgrade your media knowledge and become newsroom-ready! Read Here: On-Camera (OC) The anchor appears on screen and briefly introduces the story. This opening shot is called OC and lasts only a few seconds. Voice Over (VO) After the intro, the anchor or reporter narrates while visuals play. This is the VO, where the story continues through footage. OC–VO / OC–Graphics Sometimes the anchor intro is immediately followed by visuals or graphics. When the visuals end, the anchor may give a short closing line. Sound Bite / SOT A SOT is a real clip of someone speaking on camera. It is short, natural, and adds authenticity to the story. OC–VO–SOT Many reports mix OC, VO, and one or two SOTs. This simple structure tells the story clearly and keeps it engaging. Package A package is a complete story made of VO, SOTs, and the reporter’s narration. It is polished, edited, and usually two minutes long. Feature Story A feature highlights people, culture, lifestyle, or emotional topics. It is softer, more detailed, and longer than a regular news package. Donut A donut begins and ends with the reporter on screen, often live from the location where the news is happening. Remote Donut The anchor speaks from the studio while the reporter responds live from another place. This gives real-time updates. Anchor–Reporter Interaction The anchor interacts with a reporter either in the studio or on the field. It keeps breaking news clear and connected. Beeper A beeper or phono is when the anchor talks to someone over the phone, with a picture or graphic on screen. Vox Pop Vox Pop shows short comments from everyday people to reflect public opinion on an issue or event. Conversation A conversation records a small group discussing a topic naturally. It feels real and spontaneous. Live Broadcasts Live coverage uses OB vans, SNG units, or satellite to show events in real time without delay. As-Live An As-Live report is recorded earlier but presented as if it is happening live when instant coverage is needed. Linking Stories A link joins two related stories smoothly so viewers follow the flow without confusion. Graphics When visuals are missing, text, maps, or illustrations fill the screen to support the story. Bumper A bumper is a tiny graphic used during transitions or before returning from a break. Bug A bug is a small on-screen label like LIVE, BREAKING, or the channel logo. Ticker A ticker is the scrolling text at the bottom showing updates and breaking news. Tic-Tac A simple interview setup where the camera switches between the reporter and the guest. On-Camera Reversal After interviewing someone, the camera captures the reporter’s questions again from behind the guest to help create smooth edits. Walk-Through The reporter walks through a location while explaining the story, giving viewers a sense of the place. PTC – Piece to Camera A PTC is when the reporter appears on screen and speaks directly to viewers from the scene. PTC Tease A very short on-camera teaser used to build interest before a full report. Super A super is the text at the bottom showing names, titles, or short headlines. Bloomberg Style Screen A split-screen layout showing video on one side and text or updates on the other for a modern look. Promo A fast, attention-grabbing montage of clips used to promote an upcoming story or event. #TVNews #NewsFormats #Journalism101 #NewsroomSecrets #MediaEducation #BroadcastNews #OnCamera #VoiceOver #ReporterLife #LiveReporting #DigitalMedia #MediaStudents #NewsProduction #NewsAnchor #NewsCoverage #BreakingNewsFormat #FeatureStory #MediaAndArtsTV #AdeenaSabir #BehindTheNews
