When Endometriosis Reaches the Lungs! Most people think endometriosis only affects the uterus or ovaries. But in rare cases it can reach the lungs too. In our center we see one or two such cases every month, usually when a woman comes in with repeated episodes of bleeding in the chest known as hemothorax. This patient had two such episodes before being referred to us. During surgery we found endometriotic spots on the surface of her lungs. These small patches can cause the lung to partially collapse and lead to serious symptoms if not treated in time. We carefully removed and treated each visible lesion, making sure no area was missed. This case is a reminder that endometriosis can go far beyond the pelvis. Early diagnosis and expert treatment can make all the difference.
