The string section is used to accent big chords that fit underneath the melody, carried by a solo cello. I used some synthesised NES waves to keep with how the piece and the Shovel Knight soundtrack is as a whole, emulating the Japanese-only Konami VRC6 sound card used in their later NES games. Instead of using trumpets for the focal brass, I used flugelhorns and trombones in the higher register to give the piece a more mellow feel, fitting better with the large moving strings and piano throughout the piece.
