Grishneshwar also known as Grushneshwar Jyotirling is a Hindu temple of Lord shiva in Verul village of aurangabad district Maharashtra. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. The temple is a national protected site 1 km away from world Heritage the Ellora caves. 3 kms North west of the city Aurangabad also known as Shambhaji nagar. The Grishneshwar temple is built with the black stone on 44000 sq. ft. area. It have lots of sculptures, fine design on its interior and exterior walls. The jyotirlinga is situated in the Garbhgriha of the mandir and a large moorti of Lord Shiva's favourite bhakt Nandi is present at the main door of the mandir. The temple went through the several rounds of rebuilding followed by re destruction during Mughals and Maratha conflits. Maloji Bhosale grand father of The great Shivaji first restored it in the 16th century and rebuilt to its current form in the year 1729 under the sponsorship of queen Gautam bai Holkar of Indore, after the fall of Mughal Empire. It is presently an important and active pilgrimage site of Hindus and attracts long line of devotees daily. anyone can enter in its premises and inner chamber.
