Come check out the Te Iringa mountain bike trail. An in-depth look at what to expect and what to take when taking on the mighty Te Iringa trail. Another mountain bike trail review from Mucker & Mucker! We love Mountain Biking NZ, Taupo, and its surrounding areas. TRAIL DESCRIPTION: The Te Iringa track is a Department of Conservation managed walking trail with mountain biking access as well. It is known for its highly technical riding and is definitely a grade 5 track. There are lots and lots of carry bike sections over logs, streams, swamps, and across ravines. The Te Iringa MTB trail should only be attempted by experts. The track starts out from the road through Kaimanawa Forest Park to the Oamaru Hut and back. This mountain bike trail is some of New Zealand's best backcountry It is carved through deep and remote Kaimanawa Forest Park. The trail is 19km in and 19km out. Don't be fooled by the short distance; you will be carrying your bike a lot of it. So that's a 38km total trail adventure however we recommend splitting this epic adventure over 2 days with an overnight stay at the Oamaru Hut. This trail provides a challenge for even the most avid mountain bikers, with steep forested hills, stream crossings, wetlands and fallen trees. GOOD TO KNOW: Entry to the Oamaru Hut is on a first-in, first-served basis. It cannot be booked ahead and has bunks for approximately 8 from memory. There is limited phone coverage on the trail and we recommend taking a satellite locator beacon to ensure your safety out there. We rode this mountain bike trail April 2018. GETTING THERE: Leave Taupo on SH5 toward Napier. Turn onto Taharua Road, then turn onto Clements Mill Road. The trail starts a little bit into Clements Mill Road on the left. There is a campsite and carpark area at the start of the trail. USEFUL WEBSITES: http://www.ridenz.co/trails/te-iringa... https://www.lovetaupo.com/en/scenic-a...
