🔗 https://orcd.co/the-unforgettable One of Miriam Makeb's most iconic songs 'Pata Pata' was first recorded in 1957 and gained international recognition with its U.S release in 1967. Miriam Makeba collaborated with many legendary artists, including Harry Belafonte, Paul Simon, and her former husband, Hugh Masekela. A vocal opponent of apartheid, she used her platform to expose its injustices. In retaliation, the South African government revoked her passport in 1960 and stripped her of citizenship in 1963. She lived in exile until 1990, returning home as apartheid collapsed. On 9 November 2008, after performing in Italy at a concert supporting writer Roberto Saviano’s fight against the Camorra, Makeba suffered a heart attack and passed away, leaving behind a legacy of music and activism. Makeba campaigned against the South African system of apartheid. The South African government responded by revoking her passport in 1960 and her citizenship and right of return in 1963. As the apartheid system crumbled she returned home for the first time in 1990. Miriam died of a heart attack on 9 November 2008 after performing in a concert in Italy organised to support writer Roberto Saviano in his stand against the Camorra, a mafia-like organisation local to the region of Campania. https://www.miriammakeba.co.za https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miriam_...
