Tendo como ponto de partida estratégias de sobrevivência animal tais como a camuflagem e a mudança de pele, mas também táticas de sedução/proteção femininas, como a ocultação/revelação de zonas do corpo, a obra de Andreia Santana propõe uma quimera que ultrapassa as categorizações de génese, género e habitat. Simultaneamente atraentes e inquietantes, as suas esculturas apresentam-se como estruturas híbridas. Peles escamadas, expurgadas, feridas, são simultaneamente conchas e instrumentos de proteção dos corpos que encapsulam, fossilizam ou cristalizam outros no seu interior. Fazendo emergir questões associadas à vida e à morte, à decadência e à reconstrução, estas estruturas escultóricas de morfologia animal avançam na preposição de um mundo – um futuro transcorporal, pós-humano – em estado líquido, de gestos e coreografias ainda desconhecidos. Aí a fluidez dos corpos e entre corpos, a incorporação e transferência mútua das qualidades alheias, decorre do processo em que corpo e hospedeiro se transformam, assumindo formas e estados incapturáveis pelas categorizações mais instituídas, tornando-se metáfora de uma declaração ou tomada de posição política, vital. ___ The work of Andreia Santana takes as its point of departure animal survival strategies such as camouflage and the shedding of skin, as well as tactics of feminine seduction/protection such as the hiding/revelation of parts of the body, and it suggests a fantasy that goes beyond categorisations of origin, gender, and habitat. Her sculptures are simultaneously attractive and unsettling, and they appear as hybrid structures. Scaly, expelled, wounded skins are simultaneously shells and instruments of protection for the bodies that encapsulate, fossilise, or crystallise others in their interior. Raising questions associated with life and death, decay and reconstruction, these sculptural structures of animal morphology put forward a world – a post-human, trans-corporal future – in liquid form, its gestures and choreographies as yet unknown. In it, the fluidity of bodies and between bodies, the incorporation and mutual transference of another’s qualities, occurs through the process by which the body and the host are transformed, taking on forms and states that cannot be captured through the most common categorisations, and becoming a metaphor for a declaration or the assumption of a vital, political position. — Sara Antónia Matos
