Played by Andrew Dewar at the American Cathedral in Paris on the chamber organ built by Dominique Thomas in 2005, on loan to us from La Chapelle Harmonique while our main organ is being rebuilt. From the builder: The scalings of the Bourdon 8 and Flûte 4 stops are directly inspired by a 1635 positive organ by Nicolaus Manderscheidt in the Leipzig Instrumental Museum. The Régale is copied from an anonymous late 16th century model from Freuenfeld Abbey in Switzerland. The construction of the Principals is largely inspired by the pipes of the early 17th century Italian organ in the Silberne Kapelle of the Hofkirche in Innsbrück. The very fine pearwood grain used for the fronts and bevels of the pipes, and the very thin wall thicknesses based on early examples, contribute greatly to producing timbres that are richer in harmonics. The design of the case is inspired by a positive organ depicted in paint on the lid of a German spinet from 1615; the upper section with its Italian-style front layout blends harmoniously with it. The light, sonorous poplar wood traditionally used in European harpsichord and Italian organ building was employed for the construction. The wind is supplied via a single-fold wedge-shaped bellows in the bottom of the organ.
