History Dan Nicholas Park was created originally with a gift in 1968 of 330 acres of land from Mr. Dan Nicholas, a local entrepreneur and philanthropist. Park with carousel, aquarium, barnyard, mini-golf, paddle boats, picnic areas, campgrounds & more. The Granite Quarry Train Depot: Once the Southern Railway depot, circa. 1910. Now a community center in Dan Nicholas Park Carousel History: Come enjoy the music, lights and magic of this beautiful carousel! "Haden's Carousel" was given to Dan Nicholas Park in memory of Haden Holmes Hurley (1936-96) by his wife Jennifer and brothers Jim and Gordon. The Hurley family published The Post from 1912-97. Open weekends only until June, Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m. June through Labor Day weekend, the park is open Monday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The park returns to weekend hours after Labor Day. Ticket price to ride the carousel is $1.
