Reinventing a small Irish town. Markets, Memories, and Change. "Gathering Together," a new piece of Irish music by @CelticBillyIrish, wafts through this exploration of the transformation of a small historic Galway town rooted in tradition. Once alive with monthly Fair Days and trading of sheep, cattle, horses, produce, with handshakes on the street and a drink afterwards in the pub - Dunmore has weathered the decline of older ways, the rise of Tuam Mart, the N17 Road bypass, the closure of small businesses, and more. Dunmore's story is the story of many towns in Ireland. Yet Resilience endures. Since 1975, Dunmore's Community Council and Annual Festival Committees have worked to revive the town's spirit. The Market Day, a central part of the10 day Festival in early August each year, is at the heart of revival. Remembering and celebrating the past with vintage displays, crafts, music, meeting each other, welcoming the diaspora and visitors. The central and ever-changing role of petrol stations and garages in this small town reflect the experience of many shopkeepers and small businesses in Dunmore and around Ireland. As a community evolves with time and change, the people of Dunmore continue to gather, celebrate, and remember. In changing times, one truth remains: "Níl neart go cur le chéile" - there is no strength without unity. "Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent." - Victor Hugo Thank you for watching and listening.
