IPS Y Puran Kumar (2001-batch) was found dead, allegedly by suicide, at his residence. In his purported final note, he accused multiple senior IPS/IAS officers of caste-based discrimination, harassment, humiliation, mental pressure and “atrocities.”  • The note reportedly named eight officials including Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur, and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia among those he blamed.  • There’s a bribery/extortion angle in the investigations: a head constable, Sushil Kumar, was arrested in a liquor contract bribe case, and some allege his arrest is tied to Puran Kumar’s name.  • The investigation has hit roadblocks: Puran Kumar’s laptop is under dispute (his widow has refused to hand it over) and the authenticity of the suicide note is contested.  • In a new development, ASI Sandeep Kumar (also spelled Lather) from Rohtak allegedly died by suicide. He left a video and a suicide note in which he accused the late IPS Puran Kumar of corruption, claimed that Puran had been shielding wrongdoing, demanded that a probe into Puran Kumar’s assets be carried out, and framed his own death as a sacrifice for truth.  • In his video, Sandeep said: “I am sacrificing my life for truth”, and also cited situations where Puran Kumar allegedly interfered in cases, altered charges, and misused his authority.  • Political and social outrage is growing. Protests, demands for impartial/supreme court–supervised investigation, and warnings of state-wide agitation are underway (e.g. by BSP).  • The FIR in Puran Kumar’s case has reportedly been amended to include provisions under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act after pressure from his wife and social groups.
