The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge touch down in Australia's red centre, retracing the footsteps of William's parents, Charles and Diana, who visited the Northern Territory outback region 31 years ago The royal couple flew into Yulara Airport on Tuesday echoing the trip of Prince William's parents the Prince of Wales and Princess Diana, who visited the region in 1983. They were greeted on the tarmac by Northern Territory Chief Minister Adam Giles and Aboriginal traditional owners from the Anangu nation. Prince William and his wife Kate visited the National Indigenous Training Academy in Yulara, which trains Aboriginal people to work in the hospitality and tourism industries, including at the nearby Ayers Rock Resort. The Duke and Duchess met staff, trainees, and work experience participants, and one student showed the royals a map of the Aboriginal nations of Australia. The couple presented certificates to trainees graduating from the academy with tourism qualifications, and received gifts in return. Dozens of locals gathered to greet the royal couple, who chatted with school children before departing the academy. Later today they will visit Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, a sacred site for the area's Aboriginal people. The visit will be only their second night away from Prince George, who is staying with his nanny in Canberra.
